Chanel Langdon

Saxophone

Chanel Langdon is a jazz saxophonist, composer and educator based in Melbourne. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2022 with a Bachelor of music specialising in jazz and improvisation and has recently completed her Master of Music in performance teaching. Chanel enjoys the jazz classics from Cannonball Aderly to Duke Ellington as well as 80’s rock. She is an active member of Melbourne music scene, playing saxophone in Tram of Thought. Tram of Thought performs reimagined covers as well original music from band members. Chanel is heavily involved in the big band scene as co-leader and baritone saxophonist of the Southbank Jazz Orchestra, and saxophonist in the Melba Big Band.

Chanel uses storytelling as a basis for her writing as she aims to create mental imagery for the audience through her music. Examples of this writing style include ‘Snake Soup’ which depicts the story of two witches living deep in a forest brewing mysterious potions. ‘Rats in Hats’ told the story of a sneaky and sly rat rummaging the streets of New York. Currently Chanel is aiming to bring this storytelling style into big band composition with Caleb Paine and the Southbank Jazz Orchestra.
